The antifungal activity of the lyophilized extract of Tectona grandis was evaluated by in vitro susceptibility tests. The research was carried out due to the need to find therapeutic alternatives against fungal infections. A strain of the fungus Rhizopus stolonifer was used as a model organism and the potato dextrose agar medium and the poisoned medium method was applied to evaluate the antifungal activity of the aqueous extract. The results demonstrated a significant inhibition of fungal growth by the lyophilized extract of Tectona grandis, suggesting its potential as an antifungal agent. This turned out to be dose dependent in the range studied, from 30 to 75 mg/L, since it could be clearly observed how the growth of the fungus gradually decreased with increasing doses of lyophilized extract of teak leaves. Freeze-dried extract of Tectona grandis shows promising antifungal effects in vitro, supporting its research and development as a potential alternative treatment against fungal infections.
