Abstract

The study analyzes the structure and floristic composition of the tree community present at CEIPA, located in the Ecuadorian Amazon. Tropical forests are highly biodiverse ecosystems that play a fundamental role in global climate regulation and carbon storage, in addition to sustaining numerous essential ecological processes. In this context, understanding the organization of tree communities through variables such as diameter, height, basal area, and species diversity allows for the interpretation of ecological dynamics and natural regeneration processes in these ecosystems. The research was conducted through a forest inventory in four 20 m × 20 m plots, where all trees with a diameter greater than 5 cm were recorded. Species were identified based on their morphological characteristics, and subsequently, various diversity indices and ecological parameters were calculated, including tree density, basal area, Shannon, Simpson, and Pielou indices, as well as the Importance Value Index (IVI). In addition, horizontal structure was analyzed using diameter classes, and vertical structure was examined through height intervals. The results recorded 23 species belonging to 21 genera and 16 botanical families, with a predominance of the Arecaceae family and the species Iriartea deltoidea at 16.04%, which showed the highest IVI and moderate forest diversity, reflecting active natural regeneration of the ecosystem.
